Review of The Snow Walker (2003) by Paulene F — 30 Jul 2007
Charlie is a pilot who carries goods to isolated locations in the arctic. At some point enroute he is begged by the family of a young woman named Kanaalaq to transport her to hospital care as she is sick with TB.
WHen the plane crashes off course, an incredible bond is formed as Charlie comes from being an arrogant jerk to realizing that Kanalaaq's resilience and strength is his only hope for survival. He is forced to respect and understand the Inuit way of life in a spiritual sense.
The filming is lovely as it is quiet, with not much music, yet the stillness brings a true expression of the lonliness and desperation that one might feel in this arctic tundra. I also read the book by Farley Mowat and the movie does do it justice.
I hope my review doesn't make it sound boring because it is really worth your time in my opinion.
