Review of The Snake Pit (1948) by Luke W — 10 Oct 2009
Olivia De Havilland stars as a mental patient, who is unsure of why she is at the asylum. Flash backs show why she feels the way she does, and why she pulls away from anyone who isn't like her father. As the film progresses, Olivia's character realizes what has occurred in her life to act in such a way.
This was one of the first films to show what it was like to have a mental breakdown. Olivia's performance is probably the best that I've seen. She puts emotion into this character and makes you sympathize with her. I really enjoyed watching Leo Genn's performance as her doctor, who tries his hardest to help her recover. A must see for any old movie fan!
