Review of The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) by Byron B — 20 Apr 2008
This is one of the more outlandish pre-code films I have seen, which makes it all the more fun. Witty songs, delicious innuendo, and a pair of sparkling performances from Claudette Colbert and Miriam Hopkins stand out in a film that clearly paved the way for Lubitsch's signature style of comedy.
"Jazz Up Your Lingerie" has got to be one of the best song titles of the 1930s.
