The story, as it unravels (not in strict chronological order), is completely bizarre and in the hands of a poor storyteller / director would be utterly absurd and could fall flat on its face. But with Almodovar creating, and Banderas and Anaya filling their roles so well, as a viewer I was able to look beyond this and enjoy the exploration of the fascinating psychology of it all, from dark to sexy to brooding and with just enough hint of tongue-in-cheek to let you know that despite the seriousness that frequently pervades the story, there is not 100% seriousness with the direction.

It may weird you out or delight you, but it's unlikely you won't be impressed one way or another.

It's not perfect, but it doesn't need to be to still be a very good film, and in some strange way some minor flaws seem apt.
