Review of The Skeleton Twins (2014) by James T — 25 Sep 2014
Great film fueled by two terrific performances. Overall it is a simple story of two siblings reuniting unexpectedly after a 10 year absence from each others' lives. In doing so, it isn't long before is it blatantly evident that things really aren't going that great for either one of them...
The mix of honesty in its sad subject matter (suicide, infidelity, broken families, depression, etc) and offerings of of true-to-life humor is a far visit away from the SNL sketch-comedy and over-the-top films the two stars have become famous for... and that is a good thing! For, Wiig and Hader are very believable in their roles and there is a authenticity here that is tender and moving without ever becoming "too" melodramatic... Highly recommended, but be prepared to do more "inner reflection" on the relationships and experiences that shape us more than overall laughs... It is up there on my list of one of the best films I have seen this year so far.
