Review of The Skeleton Twins (2014) by Thomas L — 26 Dec 2014
The Skeleton Twins sees Bill Hader and Kristin Wiig shed their established comic persona's and dive right into a tragic melodrama, in mostly a good way. Most of the dysfunctional family squabbling you will have seen before, but because Hader and Wiig are so convincing it's easier to go along for the ride.
At times it was hard to distinguish between what was supposed to be funny and what was supposed to be depressing, nor was I sure about the plausibility of certain scenes. Take for instance a moment in which brother and sister get high on anesthetic gas in a dental office (I guess after hours) and no one notices.
Luke Wilson plays himself again, the good looking idiot who means well. These are two fully realized fuck ups, Hader and Wiig nail it, the movies itself settles for being decent.
