Review of The Skeleton Twins (2014) by Matt K — 28 Jan 2015
This movie wasn't what I thought it was going to be and that's actually not a bad thing. Skeleton Twins I knew it was going to be dramatic and emotional, but I expected it to be a bit funnier. It was funny for sure, I laughed at a handful of moments and I was pleased with that but I would've maybe liked a tiny bit more humor.
The movie is pretty good and well acted. I've never seen these sides of Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig before and it was really cool to see them doing a not so goofy movie. They've proved to me that they can act before but they were great in this movie.
They had really good chemistry for sure and that's what really makes this movie. Their conversations they had with each other, despite not seeing each other in 10 years, was really touching and fun at times.
There were more than a few scenes where I was tearing up because of the emotional impact it has. Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader have very sad lives and that can really trigger tears. The whole Rich thing was really hard to take sometimes though.
If I were to have the biggest complaint about this movie it would be his character. I really like Ty Burrell and his acting was good I just think the movie could've been better if they had someone else playing a character like him and if the character wasn't a teacher.
I understand that he was desperate for love but I think they could've done something different. That's just me. Overall the acting was great, the story was touching and heartbreaking, the chemistry between characters was strong, and some laughable moments.
Skeleton Twins was a better than average dramedy that I'll come back to eventually. Its worth a watch. B.
