Review of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005) by Manny C — 20 Jun 2011
You can't completely hate on a movie that features fresh-face performances from the likes of America Ferrera (Ugly Betty) and Blake Lively (a future Gossip Girl star). The story is pretty by-the-numbers, but there is actually some genuine heart, so it doesn't totally insult the intelligence of its target audience.
Taken from Ann Brashares' best-seller, with a script form Delia Ephron, director Kevin Kwapis strains to make the material not entirely appealing to young girls. Four young girls, the aforementioned Lively and Ferrera, with Amber Tamblyn and Alexis Bledel, all of different body types, pass along one lucky pair of jeans between them all during a memorable summer of love and loss.
That's basically it, and while it isn't storytelling gold, it's isn't all bad either.
