Review of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (2008) by Belinda C — 31 Mar 2009
This sequel unfortunately lost the charm and the spark that made the first movie so quirky and entertaining. I figured that since this sequel was based on a book series, it wouldn't be that bad but truly, it was executed so poorly. It seemed that the writers of the film were trying to cram in as many story lines and characters in it as possible. Suddenly, random characters popped out of nowhere that we hadn't seen in the first film and really, it just made no sense. Not only was that a problem, but there were also plot holes and back-stories that weren't made clear enough. Not all of us have read the books, so how are we supposed to know?
There are many comments here also about the lack of character development, which I agree with. It came across as if the writers were thinking, "Ok, the characters have already developed in the first film. They don't need to change!".
The performances of the lead girls were fine like the first movie. I didn't have a problem with that. To me though, the highlight was actually Kyle MacLaughlan's character, who only had a minor role. He was the only new character who seemed fresh and interesting.
Generally, this sequel was weak. It was way too long and a bit boring. It wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it was weak and forgettable.
