Review of The Silence of the Sea (1949) by Enrico C — 08 Dec 2008
From the novel by Vercors, first movie by Melville, after the short one with Beby the clown. It is the story of a German officer in love with France and its culture who discovers the true motivations of the occupation.
The movie shws an unbearable pain of a man who stands alone, as most of the Melville gangsters. A great work testifying and not just celebrating the civilian resistance. An unforgettable experience.
