Review of The Silence of the Lambs (1991) by Richard C — 05 Feb 2013
One of the top thrillers to come out in cinema history, The Silence of the Lambs thoroughly deserved the five Oscars it received, with special mention deserving to Jonathan Demme's intelligent, cleverly crafted and superb direction and Anthony Hopkins' unforgettable performance as the chilling Hannibal Lecter, a character performance which effectively set the bar for all future actors playing villains to reach a different kind of villainy not seen on cinema beforehand.
There are many sequences that stay in the mindset for a considerable amount of time but the standout sequence focuses on Lecter's escape from a maximum-security police station, one of the all-time great thriller sequences from all facets of cinema past, future and present.
This is one hell of a thriller that is the sort of film that if you saw on the telly, you would just have to watch it, regardless as to whether its the second or twentieth time.
