Review of The Silence of the Lambs (1991) by Sam D — 04 Jan 2014
Vastly complex and brutally swift, The Silence of the Lambs is a completely different take on horror cinema. It's lingering, leering and the way it burrows into your skin so deeply is unparalleled.
Bolstered by the two fantastic leads of Jodie Foster - who is subtle, riveting and powerful - and Anthony Hopkins - whose 16 minutes on screen (!!!) are terrifying and beautifully clever - and sharp direction, this is one of the most intelligent films I've ever seen - with plenty of creepiness thrown in.
It's the first horror film I've seen which is accessible to everyone, which, in itself, is sheer genius. What's more, it feels real.
