Review of The Signal (2007) by Per H — 20 Jun 2008
This was a very bizarre movie. First off, Justing Welborn (Ben) distracted me by looking too much like a young Keifer Sutherland. So much so, in fact, I kept finding myself thinking if they did a prequel 24 movie and needed a younger Jack Bauer, Welborn should be it.
That aside, it wasn't a bad movie as much as just a confusing one. I'm not someone who needs everything explained to me in films, but this one didn't even attempt at theories. I found myself wondering quite a bit if this whole thing was a test of some sort due to the fact that it seemed to only happen in Terminus -- and where is that, anyhoo? -- and they made a couple references to it being impossible to leave.
Also, this movie more than rings echoes of Stephen King's CELL, which is fine. Brutal, at times darkly comical, and an interesting plot device taken by three separate directors, this movie isn't for everyone, but worth a watch.
