Review of The Signal (2007) by Nicholas D — 20 Jun 2008
This movie was fantastic and came out of nowhere for me. I don't generally like horror movies, so it's a good thing that this isn't actually one. It's very interesting, though. The same storyline written in and directed in three separate acts by three separate directors.
The first act was very similar to something like 28 Days later. The second act was a dark comedy, much like Shaun of the Dead meets Pulp Fiction. The third act focused more on the insanity of the characters.
The end was fairly ambiguous, but that's a good thing. It does have its downfalls, though. Like the short that introduces the movie sucks and is nothing like it in style or substance or atmosphere. Also, when Clark tries to explain what's going on, it sounds like techno-babble and seems like something someone who doesn't know what they're talking about made up. Although, it could be because he was crazy.
At any rate, this movie is well worth seeing.
