Review of The Signal (2007) by Bret D — 08 Aug 2008
This is another movie that leaves me wondering "what could have been?" The film has three parts, each directed by a different person. It's all part of the same story, just each director's vision for it I guess.
This was a mistake. The first part works perfectly. It builds real tension and suspense. You are drawn in and feel dread about the situation. It is very intense. The second part kills ALL of that. It is played up as a comedy.
The movie starts going for laughs. It succeeds too. Some of the stuff is very funny. It just doesn't fit in with the movie the first part was telling. The third part tries to recapture what the first created, but doesn't quite achieve its goal.
This isn't a bad film, it's actually sorta good, but the first part of the film leaves you feeling like it could have been so much more.
