Review of The Signal (2007) by Wendi M — 19 Aug 2008
The Signal is broken into three linear "Transmissions", each of which makes up a part of the whole story. Each has a distinctly different feel to it, but not in a way that is terribly jarring.
The first part is a humorless depiction of the civilized world falling apart; this is presented in a way that rivals even the most well-written zombie movies. The second part lightens up slightly on the fear, and adds in a healthy dose of dark, dark humor. The third part is the hardest to nail down, as it is sort of all over the place, but necessarily so, as it falls to this piece to deliver the climax and denouement.
Overall, it's a wonderfully stylish, witty, and dark movie. There is plenty of gore, so you may want to steer clear if that's a problem for you. Otherwise, I highly recommend this one.
