Review of The Signal (2007) by Felipe M — 06 Sep 2008
The Signal is a very ambitious low-budget horror film, with three (count them, three) directors in charge of its three separate acts. Act One is straight-forward, serious horror. Act Two switches sharply into bad dark comedy.
And Act Three reverts back to the serious horror again. This was all intentional I suppose, but the end result is a fractured film. And this experimental concept might not be such a terrible thing if the second act wasn't the most gosh-awful, unfunny, R-rated Desperate Housewives wannabe, pile of dog poop.
Even though the film rejuvenates my interest by the end, its horrendous mid-section takes a 3-star flick and pulls it down to 2.
