Review of The Signal (2007) by Christopher P — 23 Oct 2008
This flick starts off with a bang and a great set up for what could have been one hell of a kick ass mass hysteria themed horror thriller. Alas, it just wasn't meant to be. The first segment is tense and absolutely insane.
It really gets you revved up for what you hope is coming down the road. But then after the first 30 minutes another director takes over and the film becomes what essentially is a horror sitcom. It's such a jarring change that it nearly ruins what came before it, but as it goes on it does grow on you and is quite funny in parts.
But that's not the point. It still feels like it's building toward something great and that leads us to the final segment, where yet another director takes over. This is where the film absolutely falls apart.
It's not only boring, it's damned near insulting in how it toys with your expectations (and perception in a couple scenes) and then blows it back in your face with one of the most disappointing endings I've ever seen.
It had the potential to be one hell of a thriller, but in the end it's nothing to brag about.
