Review of The Signal (2007) by Amanda C — 17 Feb 2009

The underlying direction of The Signal was fairly promising, and for a while it really delivered on the fear and some pretty brutal violence. However, while I did enjoy it, the film seemed to suffer from an identity crisis.

Unlike Shaun of the Dead, it didn't quite succeed in combining comedy with horror because it would veer strangely from one to the other without combining the two successfully. The scattered bits of dark comedy really distracted from the horror, and vice versa.

Still, I did jump during a few scenes, and it was a pretty decent flick despite the confusion and the the total lack of explanation for events.
