Great concept that it seems everyone is trying to score right now. This one comes off with a topper on the great concept by making this a 3 piece suite. I guess it was an independent in the running for major distribution and won over people. And I can see why. It gives a projects great style and has a minimalist scope that really makes an apocalypse a personal voyage.
The prologue sets up the mystique and main couple. And from there, it is a serious and gory segment, then a comedic and brutally violent segment, then a lower key more dramatic final segment. I wanted to see this for a while, and read some of the articles on it, and most hated the middle and how it ruined the pace. I disagree. I feel the middle pieces helps lend the perspective of the linear story ? which is what this movie is trying to tell. I think if it followed the couple through a serious journey of survival, it would be a rote movie and lack the excitement of the struggle to reunite against a personable antagonist. It?s a great experiment to watch. Enjoyable for people who like the genres. Like me.
