Review of The Signal (2007) by Erno K — 01 Mar 2009
This movie surprised me. I was expecting a straightforward horror film, but I got something else. For the most part, the surprises were good. The amount of tongue-in-cheek was one of the things I didn't expect.
There are some laugh out loud surreal moments, like the party with mostly dead people. The artsy fartsy parts I didn't like, and I feel like the flick tried a bit too much to be an unholy hybrid of horror splatter and romantic love story.
I wanted more black comedy. The narration deserves a mention, because it's pretty weird. We jump from one character to the next and get some flashbacks when we least expect it. It all works, mostly.
This is a fun little film that could have been awesome if done a bit differently.
