Review of The Signal (2007) by Nadia L — 01 Mar 2009
The first segment was the weakest of the three, but overall a success. Stylistically, the picture used the tried and true 'documentary' style, but perhaps an invisible style of editing would have made this more effective (at the same time, the fractured sense of reality was driven home by the jump-cuts).
Despite some complaints of the ending being too happy, I found it to be rather dark- adulterous lovers face the end of the world; no evils were corrected (it was never told why 'Lewis' was such a bad guy; his death was completely unjustified) and the world seems to be ruined (although, how far reaching the signal was, is never clarified).
But, to be honest, I would have liked to see the female lead go insane.
