Review of The Shop Around the Corner (1940) by Esperanza G — 01 Mar 2008
I can't imagine why we're supposed to believe all these American actors are Hungarian (it's set in Budapest), but otherwise this is a very well-done, thoughtful com-of-errors romance film..
. and to its credit, it doesn't conform to vanilla Hollywood screenwriting, in story or progression. Margaret Sullavan was a bit overacting, but she's so darn cute we'll forget about it.
