Review of The Shop Around the Corner (1940) by Andrew B — 04 Jan 2012
An awesome comedy from 1940 starring a very young jimmy stewart about a pair of pen-pals falling in love. The shop employees all create a dynamic cast, and just spending a little time in that store feels like home.
In addition to mr. stewart, there are a couple cameos by future stars of â~itâ(TM)s a wonderful lifeâ(TM) (guiseppe martini, mr. bank examiner). This is yet another Christmas movie featuring a suicide attempt (topic of conversation with my bro lately â" IAWL, the apartment being others).
I watched the first 20 minutes of this movie 3 times because the Cuban kept falling asleep and we would have to restart it another night. But this night was perfect: awesome bottle of napa merlot, a smoked cheese plate, and this totally endearing little Christmas movie.
This will probably go into the regular xmas rotation.
