Review of The Shootist (1976) by Rami R — 21 Mar 2008
Somewhere between Unforgiven and the Bandwagon, this film lovingly and self-reflexively examines a major film icon at the end of his career. JB Books was probably the most multi-dimensional character Wayne ever played (Wayne is responsible for many great performances but not multi-layered characters).
Carefully shot by Siegel and with some dynamite bits of dialogue, the film has even more in its favor with its genius bits of casting.
