Review of The Shootist (1976) by Don S — 01 Dec 2008
So my mom watched so much John Wayne, especially John Wayne westerns when I was young, but I'd never seen The Shootist until just now at the recommendation of a friend. I have to say that this film truly stood out for me.
There is a depth to Wayne's character that I wasn't sure he could really convey. Ron Howard and Lauren Bacall both provide incredible space for some of Wayne's best scenes, too, as they strongly compliment him with their own exceptional performances.
A great film at the end of a long, well-loved career for Wayne!
