Review of The Shipping News (2001) by Chris F — 05 Oct 2007
It can be said that director Lasse Hallstrom has assembled one of the greatest casts in recent film history... I am absolutely in love with all four 'main' characters. This seems like one of those perfect ideas right? Unfortunate, resounding "no".
The Shipping News, as a film and script, doesn't hold a lot of emotional weight because the movie plays 'like a movie would' (to quote Roger Ebert). These wonderful actors are given material that is not and never will be as good as they.
It saddens me to see talent wasted, but I did enjoy watching my beloved actors, regardless. I just wish they had all been able to do what I know they are capable of!
