The Shipping News is not a big movie. It's very personal, focusing on one broken family and their inner demons. The performances are strong throughout, with Blanchett delivering a striking performance in her limited role and Spacey solidly anchoring the film.
Beautiful but severe landscapes reflect the emotional state of the protagonist as well as being eye candy. Highly recommended.
