Started very well, and held a lot of promise for most of its duration, but tried to take on too much, and fizzled out without making a point. Too many tangents, too many sub-plots, too many dark secrets, too many surprises, no single direction.

A very fine cast - Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore, Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett, Scott Glenn, Pete Postlethwaite, Rhys Ifans - is ultimately wasted.
