Review of The Shipping News (2001) by Manu G — 07 Apr 2008

I have never read the novel so I cannot compare. I wasn't going to watch this film, but somehow it grabbed my attention enough to keep me interested. Its a tale of a man, lacking in confidence, ambition and direction, whose chance meeting with his future abusive wife changes his life, and gradually his self-worth.

The film moves at a steady pace, and the scenery is beautifully filmed. Sentimental it is, but worth a see.
