Review of The Shining (1980) by Chris K — 04 Jul 2013
I'm NOT a big horror film fan, but the classics are classics, and this movie has forever changed my perception of what true horror and suspense is.
An ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL performance from Nicholson is the first attraction in this house of horrors, but the whole thing is one heck of a stunning mind trip/suspense/horror film. The entirety of the film is just downright terrifying, not physically, but mentally. The last 30 minutes have to be the most intense 30 minutes in any film.
The elements of insanity and "shining" are my favorite elements, which leaves so much open for interpretation, something I love about psychological thrillers. There is so much to discuss and make sense of in The Shining that, the more you watch it, the more apparent its genius is revealed.
A truly uncomfortable and scary film, something that upon multiple views is one of the finest pieces of horror ever put on the silver screen.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. 5 stars.
