Review of The Shining (1980) by Micheal K — 29 Oct 2013
This is a movie that believe would be so much more effective if I had watched it in the thearter rather then from my couch with commercials in between. As far as things are concerned, this movie does horror alot better then most movies by tapping into a darker part of the mind and telling you that this could happen to you.
Rather than have mosters crashing through windows to catch you. What you get is a loved one going ape shit crazy while the family is vacationing in a giant hotel alone during a blizzard. Just about everything in the movie feels wrong or uncanny.
Even average scenes of walking through the hallways feel wrong. Then there are scenes that look like flashbacks but probably aren't. It doesn't feel as scary as I'm sure that it was at one point during its prime but I digress.
Is it a good movie and even if it doesn't scare you it will keep you interested throughout and with movies like this that's the point.
