Review of The Shining (1980) by David K — 18 Feb 2015
The Shining is so, so enigmatic. It could mean anything, anything at all. From child abuse to fake moon landings. And I'm pretty sure Kubrick planed every little aspect so it could mean anything, because, like everybody knows, he was a giant genius.
So, my point is: if a movie can make us think about the meaning even 35 years later, that only proves the extreme power of the film. And that, alongside with the absolutely perfect tense atmosphere that he creates, makes the film a giant masterpiece of cinema, and one of Kubrick's very best films.
