Review of The Shining (1980) by Nanancay — 08 Nov 2015
A great movie with thrilling elements - the movie is long but it builds up in a way that the classic horror plot isn't followed (except for the ancient burial ground which is a basis for many horror movies now, maybe not in the 1980s) and chooses to evoke tension as the basis for horror rather than death.
There's a huge lack of gore and conventional ideas that are used nowadays to shock, and even a lack of jumpscares. This is a very 'refined' horror film.
