Review of The Shining (1980) by Katherine G — 21 Aug 2014
Jack Nicholson is a great Jack Torrance, but that's about the only "great" thing about this movie. Shelley Duvall's terrible performance is distracting, the character of Danny is never fleshed out to its literary potential, and the deviations from the original source material are non-improvements.
If there had been fewer overly-long cinematic scenes and less drawn-out, unimportant dialogue, there would have been more time to include the meat and potatoes from Stephen King's original masterpiece.
