Review of The Shining (1980) by Afonso A — 12 Aug 2018
Superbly spooky, masterfully crafted and impossible to forget, Stanley Kubrick's legendary Stephen King adaptation is a tour-de-force of horror filmmaking. Famous for its Steadicam shots tracking young Danny Lyold's tricycle rides through the corridors of the vast, ominous Overlook Hotel and and Jack Nicholson's endlessly quoted "Here's Johnny" ab-lib, director Kubrick sublimely subverts the cliches of the horror film yet injects his work with a powerhouse level of terror, menace and atmosphere.
Certainly one of the scariest films ever made and, certainly, one of the best, if not best, horror films ever made.
