Review of The Shape of Water (2017) by Alex%20 G — 16 Feb 2018
While the movie starts out rather strangely, with two masturbation scenes and one overdrawn sex scene in the first thirty minutes, it becomes a genuinely enchanting experience. The new, more adult, romance between a human and a monster completely overshadows the pure cliche-fest of Beauty and The Beast.
The finale is perfectly played out, with the relatable anti-hero meeting his doom and the heroine getting her wish. Underlying tones, such as racial issues and discrimination against women in the workforce, and a charming story, make this one of Del Toro's best movies.
