Review of The Shape of Water (2017) by Champ S — 25 Mar 2018
While being masterfully crafted and visually flawless, The Shape Of Water lacks a compelling narrative and dynamic characters.
The crude sex scenes served as a cheap and easy way to portray emotions and attributes which could have been depicted much more artistically and tastefully.
At times, I was drawn in by the outstanding performances and visual effects. At other times, I was dismayed by the silliness of it all. In addition, I thought the final scenes too closely resembled Del Toro's previous work Pan's Labyrinth.
If you're interested in seeing what all the hype is about, give it a watch. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it.
