One of my favorite movies of the year, The Shape of Water is a surprisingly sweet love story that blends Del Torro's stunning visuals with a heartfelt and unique plot. Sally Hawkins is phenomenal in a role where she does not speak, conveying a range of emotions seamlessly.
The direction is Del Torro's finest. The cinematography is equally gorgeous. All the supporting performances are just as good as well, not to mention the creature itself which is incredibly lifelike.
A little too long in the middle but overall one of Del Torro's finest and a definite award season contender. 4.8/5.
