Reviewed 1.19.18. You either get it, or you don't. It's a movie for romantic, oddball, nerdy, campy...outsiders. Don't check off most of those boxes? Then probably not for you. It's an indie that borders on B-movie territory, yet is populated by Hollywood elite actors, and helmed by idiosyncratic director Guillermo Del Toro.
What's not to like? Everything, or nothing. Depends on whether you'd make love to a benevolent sea creature that digs Glenn Miller, sticks to a high protein diet, and is man enough to ballroom dance.
