Review of The Shallows (2016) by Matt A — 20 Aug 2016
With the exception of a little dodgy CGI on the shark, this is perhaps on of the most tense filled 80 minutes you will see this year. After stumbling on a sharks feeding ground while surfing on a secluded beach, one woman finds herself in a fight for survival when the great white goes on a rampage.
This just proves you don't need an awful amount of money to make a decent film. Even though for the most part she is the only character you see, there are other characters on screen that have some memorable moments but its all about Nancy.
Its a brilliant thriller and has a some very tense moments. What also works is that you genuinely care if she survives as she is a likeable person. So many times in films like this the person or people have bad attitudes or do things that are stupid and make you hate them, this isn't the case.
You are on her side all the way until the very dramatic end. Fantastic!
