Jaume Collet-Serra's "The Shallows" is a solid summer vehicle for Blake Lively (including a shark and seagull) and that's all it needed to be, solid fun, solid tension, solid direction, and a solid performance from Ms.
Lively but like any film, it sure has problems, it's more of a slow burn than what you'd expect from other shark films and that kind of makes the film boring at points, Serra and the script do what they can to keep the film interesting and for the most part they do.
