Review of The Shallows (2016) by Timothy A — 11 Feb 2017

Top level B-movie (this is no Sharknado) with A class cinematography. Blake Lively doesn't give a great performance - she's not a great performer - but it is a brave one and it sees her through even though she's front and centre for the whole runtime, and she goes about as far towards looking like shit as you'd expect from a glamour girl of her calibre.

Like so many films with one performer for long stretches there's an unreasonable amount of talking to oneself or one's animal companion, but it's a pretty forgivable foible in an unexpectedly classy piece of work.
