Jaume Collet-Serra's The Shallows is a great suspenseful movie that through the creativity of the plot keeps the audience with their eyes on the screen. There are some times that the audience will find them questioning the legitimacy of certain events. Gladly the events are explained and the director was able to make these events more realistic. These events were also explained by the superb acting by Blake Lively who plays Nancy in the film. The one and only negative of the film would be that the ending is unrealistic and far fetched. Its is almost as the director decided that the ending was supposed to not seem real.

This film is about a woman, Nancy, who is going to a secluded beach to go surfing at. After she spends time surfing she realized that she is not alone in the water, she realized this too late. A fun day surfing is about to turn into a struggle to survive for Nancy. She needs to think of a plan before it is too late but the odds are against her in every way.

This film was a risky one considering there is only one main role in the film. Nancy is a person who you either love or hate and gladly she makes the choice very easy. She was able to appeal to everyone through the use of many emotions that will make even you feel emotions that you won't expect. Blake was a perfect person to cast and made the film what it is.

The movie is made suspenseful and a true thriller through the choice in audio and the camera angles make you seem that you are right there in the movie itself. The audio in the film gives you almost of an inside look at events right before they are going to happen. This was perfectly executed and because of that you will feel many emotions towards Nancy who at many times doesn't know what you know. Also the use of camera angles along with the music really pieces major times in the film together. There is also times throughout the movie that through the use of depth, bring the situations into perspective.

Through the story line and plot of The Shallows the movie is truly a thriller that is pieced together perfectly. Nancy's fun surf vacation turned into a fight for survival and it is not an easy one. The only question is what are the means on survival and is it possible.
