Review of The Seven Year Itch (1955) by Elaine M — 23 Feb 2009
Surprisingly entertaining 50's comedy starring Tom Ewell and Marilyn Monroe, following a married man who forms an obsession with the beautiful young new neighbour whilst his wife and son are away for the summer.
Desperate to resist being unfaithful, he does everything he can to spend time with her without technically breaking any rules, but his outrageous paranoia leads him into panic as he becomes convinced that his crush is being aired nationwide, and that his wife will discover his secret.
If nothing else, it's very likeable just for Ewell's character, whose ongoing narrative is pretty damn funny at times. Very simple, it won't change your life, but it's harmless and enjoyable.
