Review of The Seven Year Itch (1955) by Ray L — 15 Jun 2009
Richard Sherman (played by Ewell) finds himself in heat as the temperatures rise in NYC and the wife and kid head out of the city for the summer. This movie is amusing, but dated and insulting, despite being remembered as a classic mainly due to Monroeâ??s role and her famous white dress blowing over a subway grate.
Men and women will not only dislike Shermanâ??s blabbering, incessant soliloquies (the movie is based on a Tony-winning play) equally, but men will hate being portrayed as drooling fools and women will despise the infidelity and skirt-chasing.
Wilder rarely disappoints, but I would suggest The Apartment for a witty, mature story about manâ??s wandering eye.
