Review of The Seven Year Itch (1955) by Dulcey A — 27 Feb 2013
Billy Wilder's sharp and sarcastic wit really shines in this comedy classic. Although not Monroe's best performance, she still manages to steal every scene she's in. Who better to portray the epitome of male fantasy? Notice that she doesn't have a name in the film.
She's not supposed to be taken literally, but symbolically. Tom Ewell does a great job as the bumbling philanderer and the rest of the cast, in their small respective parts, really make the film deliver.
Overall, Wilder's satirical look at the 1950s view of marriage and morality is a winner. It strikes just the right balance of laughs and message.
