Review of The Sessions (2012) by Sonia P — 19 Jan 2013
Paralysed (but not, er, dysfunctional) polio victim in an iron lung gets help to lose his virginity from a 'sex surrogate'. Don't let that summary put you off - it's sweet, but not too sweet, funny but not burlesque, touching and positive without overcooking the cockles.
As a study of disability, and based on a true story, it's not as funny or as brutally real as Toledano and Nakache's brilliant 'Intouchables' (2011), but it bears comparison despite starting with the disadvantage of not being French.
Loved it.
