Review of The Sessions (2012) by Alan W — 24 Jan 2013
A witty and moving film that knows exactly when to stop short of over-sentimentality and heavy-handedness but just enough to facilitate an emotional and inspiring movie experience. The main leads gave performances that are both brave (in the case of Hunt's uninhibited nudity) and raw (in the case of Hawkes who is also nuanced and extremely likeable).
A sexual comedy-drama about an extremely disabled person is a hard sell and can be difficult to watch. Here, it comes easily across as natural and charming - and worthy of its subject matter.
