Review of The Sessions (2012) by Amy M — 11 Apr 2013
The Sessions delivers a refreshingly original and kind-hearted premise, showcasing amazing performances from John Hawkes and a bold Helen Hunt. What I love the most about the film was its genuine ability to shatter the taboo of sex in treating its nudity and sex scenes with respect and a sense of candid interaction that is often all too glorified by the movie industry.
Every session between Hunt and Hawkes feels raw with emotion, honesty, and chemistry. This might be the only film with graphic nudity to not watch with immature friends(or roommates) who shout "BOOBIES" every 5 minutes, but instead with adults who take on the subject matter and content with maturity and earnest understanding.
